Overview

Located on the limestone rocks of Huong Son Mountain in beautiful and mystical surroundings, the pagodas are 70 km or two-hour driving out of Hanoi. Unlike other temples in Vietnam, the only way to reach this sanctuary is boating along a narrow but extremely poetic stream by rowing boats that take 45 minutes. An iron boat can carry 3-5 people and a large wooden boat up to 20 locals. The stream is edged by rice, grass, small paths, and temples here and there.

Itinerary

Departing Hanoi at 08.00 we have a two hour drive through the picturesque countryside and back roads to the village of Duc for some refreshments before boarding our boats for a 1.5 hour ride along the scenic Yen river, surrounded by dramatic limestone cliffs. After this we walk to the Thien Tru Pagoda (Heaven's Kitchen) and the Perfume Cave and Pagoda – approximately an hour walk. On our way back we visit Giai Oan and Tuyet Son Pagodas. Lunch will be at one of the little food stalls near Thien Tru Pagoda. After lunch the boat will take us back to our bus for the drive back to Hanoi. We arrive in Hanoi around 18.00 pm.
